Children of the Street (COTS) pushes the entire Giving Tree Coffee value chain to El Salvador, except for those parts that are logistically or economically impossible. We always give preference to purchases of coffee coming from cooperatives; we believe this gives more control to those working the land. We look for cooperatives or associations that are transparent and democratically controlled by their members.
COTS works with partner non-profits in El Salvador and employs people who have been affected by landmines or those who have been affected by cerebral palsy. These populations have been affected by their handicaps and have trouble surviving in the Salvadoran economy. COTS pays salaries that are higher than the minimum labor standards.
We leverage technology in all aspects of our operation, allowing all players to be aligned with the complex process of coffee retailing over the Internet. All of our coordination, logistics, and business development is done by volunteers of Children of the Street.
