We do not give just a small percent of our profits to those in need, we give 100% percent of all profits to the children in need. We accomplish this by having a volunteer organization that is focus on one goal: to put an end to the suffering of the innocent children of El Salvador.
While Children of the Street is interested in the profits generated by Giving Tree Coffee, our ultimate goal is to end the suffering of innocent children in El Salvador.
We measure all our profits, investments and successes in terms of rescued lives, not in dollars.
There are no conflicts of interests allowed, so there are no selfish shareholders or investors in the organization by design. The volunteers who govern and manage Children of the Street do so as one would a trust: We work for the Children.
We believe that capitalism is the engine that has given us the opportunity to help others. In our opinion there have not been enough examples of corporations that have inspired other businesses and non-profits to be concerned with social responsibility. Giving Tree Coffee aspires to be such a model organization, focusing on our principles of coffee quality, value to our customers, and hope to the ones that need it the most.
In light of these principles we present the cost composition of our value chain:
| Category | Percent |
| Coffee | 29% |
| Packing | 8% |
| Internet | 5% |
| Brochure | 3% |
| Shipping | 30% |
| Handling | 0% |
| General and Administrative | 0% |
| Marketing Cost | 0% |
| Profit | 25% |
| TOTAL | 100% |
Note: The cost estimate was based on a production run of one thousand bags of coffee per months and a subscription of 1 bag per month per consumer. The shipping cost is a pass through from the United States Postal Service (US Postal Service) service. It takes about 1,400 bags of coffee sold per month to rescue one child.
