Children of the Street
Children of the Street (COTS) looks at the "big picture" of the social, economic, and environmental issues affecting the children of El Salvador. All profits generated from our business are applied to broad-range efforts based on empowerment through education and vocational training. COTS believes that education is the engine of prosperity, so we do everything in our power to provide abandoned children with the opportunities to become prosperous individuals.
More than fair prices
Many organizations offer certifications that guarantee fair prices to farmers and their families, to increase their income. We commend the work of these organizations, but also believe that this is not enough. The retail coffee value chain is complex, and only about 5% of the total price of coffee is returned to the hands of the cooperative farmers.
Cooperatives continue to invest in coffee production and lose focus of the forces of the global economy around them. El Salvador cannot compete against the production forces of Colombia, Brazil, and other giant producers. El Salvador is very small and our gourmet coffee only grows in few selected areas of the country.
